Brewers dress as cowboys for trip to St. Louis
Getting with the Western theme so prevalent in these parts, the Milwaukee Brewers dressed like cowboys as they departed for St. Louis and a big three-game series against the Cardinals. At the suggestion of manager Ron Roenicke, most players bought cowboy hats, shirts, big belt buckles and boots to wear on the trip. Roenicke formerly coached for the Los Angeles Angels with Joe Maddon, now the Tampa Bay manager who often has organized "theme" travel wardrobes with his club.
"I like it," Roenicke said. "It's bonding and the humor. I was in San Antonio for a few years (in the minors). I bought stuff every once in a while there."Anyone who knows the Brewers knows this is a fun-loving bunch, so when Roenicke suggested a theme, players quickly bought in. They went on a group shopping trip to a local Western store Friday, boosting sales considerably."They were definitely happy to see us," said reliever Kameron Loe.Bridesmaid Jewelry to Accent the Neckline wedding dress.
Speaking of Loe, Roenicke said he was most interested to see how the 6-foot-8 right-hander pulled off the cowboy look. "He's really good," Roenicke said.Loe had fun with the concept, buying cowboy rancher gloves and the whole deal."It ties it all together," said Loe, who modeled his cowboy hat. "I got some funny looks walking through the hallways."
"I think (Roenicke) appreciates a good time," Loe added. "Ron has done a really good job of keeping the business, business, and having fun on the side. You've got to do that. We're with each other for eight months. You have to have fun with it; break up the monotony."
